A telesales officer must be apt to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Similarly he/she must communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.

He/she must possess the ability to identify and understand the speech of another person as well as speak clearly so others can understand. Strong selling, negotiation and convincing skills.

He/she must use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.


A telesales officer typically spends his day persuading potential customers to accept a trial period or a visit from a sales representative, making calls to existing customer to cross sell protection planning product, following-up closely with customers who have shown interest. He/she would have to describe the product benefits and any special offers and give advice about how these may benefit customers personally.

He/she may have to gather document information about the customer, take orders, arrange for delivery and bills to be sent and enter notes into a computer, including dates for follow up calls. He/she also has to resolve customer's issue that may arise from the earlier solicitation on a timely manner 

Educational Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in any discipline is required for securing a position as a telesales officer. Some insurance companies even hire 12th pass outs.

2. Agent/ Brokers

Sell life, property, accident, health insurance and help customers choose the best insurance policies for their needs. 


An insurance agent must come across as actively looking for ways to help people. He/she must listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences and be good at persuading others to change their minds or behavior.  He/she should have people friendly attitude and patience in dealing with people and should be enthusiastic, confident and a problem solver.

In order to sell products he /she should have thorough knowledge of the products and services of the company and be able to demonstrate them to the clients. He/she must have physical stamina as there may be a lot of walking around involved.


Job responsibilities of an insurance agent include communicating the terms and conditions related to insurance and making clients aware of the documents needed for approving the claims. He/she would have to communicate policy terms to the policy holders like premium amount, dates of payments, and time period for the policy to hold good.

He/she would have to maintain database of clients and monitor acquisition on a time to time basis and maintain records of all the polices and remind the client of renewals. He/she must also prepare quotes and reports for clients and help clients settle an insurance claim - receive the money due to them - if they experience a loss.

He/she might also have to travel to meet with clients to investigate claims, or with new potential clients.

Educational Qualifications

Graduates are preferred for recruitment however 12th pass outs without proven sales abilities may be chosen. Insurance agents require licensing by IRDA which is obtained by attending courses and an examination.
